Julio Performs At Charity Event in Dominican Republic

Julio Iglesias Performs at Charity Event in Dominican Republic

"Music Wears Hope and Solidarity," a benefit organized by Dominican first lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez to collect funds for improvements to children's hospitals.

SANTO DOMINGO -- Spanish singer Julio Iglesias sang some of his best known numbers at a benefit performance in the seat of government of the Dominican Republic, "a country I love with all my heart."Accompanied by five musicians and three back-up singers, Iglesias on Monday used all the experience of his long stage career to overcome poor sound equipment and a problem with one of his legs that limited his movements."I've just turned 65, but onstage I lose 20," the Madrid native said with a big smile."Quijote", "Ni Contigo, Ni Sin Ti" (Neither With or Without You) and "Natalie" were the first melodies he sang, before "Echame a Mi La Culpa" (Put the Blame on Me) which he described as "the most beautiful song in Spanish."Again and again Iglesias mentioned his love for the Caribbean nation, and addressing President Leonel Fernandez said: "How great it is to be president of such a blessed country."For several years the singer has owned a house in Punta Cana, a tourist enclave in the eastern part of the country where he has managed to bring together six of his eight children, "because Enrique and Julio have their girlfriends and I'm not getting mixed up in that."His next number, "Un Canto a Galicia" (Song to Galicia), was in memory of his father, who introduced him to the Dominican Republic, and was followed by "All of You," a duet with his lead back-up singer, on whom he planted a kiss "Julio Iglesias style" after it was over.Moments before finishing his act, the artist called onstage the Dominican couturier Oscar de la Renta, with whom he sang "To All the Girls I've Loved Before," the 1984 hit duo he recorded with Willie Nelson.Iglesias was the headline act of "Music Wears Hope and Solidarity," a benefit organized by Dominican first lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez to collect funds for improvements to children's hospitals. Before Iglesias came onstage, Oscar de la Renta presented his Spring Resort collection, a mixture of ethnic prints and bright, vibrant colors, notably green and blue.De la Renta offered designs rich in sequins, glitter and a return to classic elegance in which style is defined as a fusion of modern looks with fashions of the 1950s and 1960s.

Punta Cana Estate

A newspaper article in USA Today featured Julio's home and property in a recent article..

By Larry Olmsted,
Special for USA TODAY

At a time when so much real estate news is bad, tourism officials in the Dominican Republic are having good things to talk about.

This summer, then-tourism minister Felix Jimenez announced a billion-dollar government infrastructure investment that includes a new cruise ship marina and road upgrades for his island nation. Then, last month, his successor, Francisco Javier García, announced that private investors have begun an additional $9 billion in developments.

The announcements included especially good news for visitors headed to the hot spot of Punta Cana, a peninsula on the easternmost coast of the Dominican Republic that has long been the home of all-inclusive resorts and, more recently, several large residential developments.

An international airport already serves the area, but the new infrastructure investment will add high-speed ferry service between Punta Cana and Samaná, another popular tourism peninsula on the northeast coast. It also will build a new highway that will reduce travel time to the capital of Santo Domingo from four hours to about an hour and a half. Both projects are scheduled for completion before 2012.

•Punta Cana Resort & Club. The latest phase of this upscale resort (puntacana.com), built on a stretch of beach and around a golf course, is The Estate, which encompasses three enclaves of single-family houses. Lots in the Arrecife and Hacienda enclaves start at $450,000, and the gated Corales enclave commands $1.8 million and up. The Estates are being co-developed by singer Julio Iglesias and designer Oscar de la Renta, both of whom have built homes in Corales."

Interview with Julio Iglesias

Exclusive interview
Julio Iglesias: Eurovision helped me grow as an artist!

Every thirty seconds a song of his is played on a radio somewhere in the world, he has sold more the 250 million records, can boast over 2.500 platinum and gold records and he has performed in more than 5.000 concerts in his career. Julio Iglesias, the universal mega star from Spain, spoke to esctoday.com's Hakan Yalcinkaya about his memories from the time when, as a young artist, he represented Spain in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest and his views on the contest now and then.

Can you tell us what you have been doing lately in your musical life?

Julio Iglesias: This year I am deeply involved in my world tour, a tour I started in January, in South Africa, and which has included shows on three continents. I have had the opportunity to come back to countries where I haven´t performed for years and where I felt wonderful on stage.

Now, I would like you to go back to year 1970, and tell us how you decided you participate in this competition? How did Gwendolyne come about?

Julio Iglesias: Gwendolyne is a song I composed for a beautiful French girl, who was my first girlfriend, after the car accident I had, when I was 20.

Do you have a special moment from Eurovision Song Contest 1970 which you would like to share with us?

Julio Iglesias: Eurovision was a special moment in my career, for the importance of this song contest and because it was the first time I went abroad to represent my country at such a high level. I did not win, but Gwendolyne was the No. 1 song in Spain.

Did you keep following the Eurovision Song Contest after you participation? What does Eurovision Song Contest mean to Julio Iglesias? You think it contributed to your career in those days?

Julio Iglesias: Yes, I do follow Eurovision, but not on a regular base, as many times I am on tour. I think it´s a contest which gives young people the opportunity to go on stage and prove what they are capable of within a competition where many other countries send what they consider to be their best representatives. Of course, taking part in Eurovision, in 1970, helped me grow as an artist and was a first step to learning what an international competition means.

After a 11 year televoting period, the EBU decided to change the system to a mix of jury voting and televoting. How do you find this decision?

Julio Iglesias: In my opinion, it´s good to have a final decision based on the audience's preferences and on the experts' opinion. An opinion which must be impartial, of course. In this way, the evaluation process is complete.

Do you have any suggestions for artists hoping to become worldwide stars through the Eurovision Song Contest?

Julio Iglesias: Eurovision may be a springboard to fame for the participants, but it only depends on them and on the way they focus on their career thereafter. It´s not enough to win a song contest, to become famous worldwide. You need to keep working hard, improve permanently, learn from the mistakes and maintain a strong connection to the people.

How would you rate the Eurovision Song Contest in terms of musical quality?

Julio Iglesias: I should have watched it constantly, in the last years, to rate it fairly and, as I mentioned, many times I am on tour and I cannot do this. Anyhow, I would like to stress that, even if the music has changed a lot in the last decades and new styles appeared, it´s very important to maintain high standards of quality.

What are your favourite songs in Eurovision Song Contest history?

Julio Iglesias: I think the best Eurovision winner songs ever are Waterloo, of the immortal ABBA and La, la, la, composed by El Duo Dinámico.

What may be the cause of Spain's bad placing in the past few years?

Julio Iglesias: Spain usually had a good level in Eurovision and you may never know when we surprise everybody and win the contest again. Spain has been a wonderful surprise at the European Championships this year and I am sure it can also be at the European Song Contest.

Would you like to represent Spain in Eurovision again?

Julio Iglesias: I have accomplished my mission at Eurovision in 1970. Now it's time for other artists to participate and take the opportunity to conquer Europe with their music.

No slowdown 40 years on for Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias
Aug 19, 2008

MADRID (AFP) — Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias has vowed never to slow down as he marks the 40th anniversary of a polyglot career that has made him one of the biggest selling Latino singers in history.

His romantic ballads, along with the signature dark mane, perpetual tan and flashing smile, propelled this Madrid native from a reluctant contender in a seaside song contest to an international heartthrob with more than 250 million albums sold worldwide.

"I love my profession and I owe everything to it. As long as I have strength, I will be here," Iglesias, who turns 65 next month, said in an interview published Tuesday ahead of his latest concert in a summer tour.

"How time flies. You don't realize it, but that is life. It has been 40 intense but very happy years. "I am grateful to life, which is very beautiful," he told the regional Spanish daily La Voz de Cadiz. Iglesias started out in July 1968 by taking part in a songwriter's contest in the popular Mediterranean resort of Benidorm. Five years earlier at the age of 20, a serious car accident put a brutal end to his dream of playing football, as a goalkeeper for Real Madrid.
He was semi-paralysed for two years afterwards and started writing songs to pass the time. "I was convalescent and very nervous, a friend pushed me and I stepped on the stage with my hands in my pocket," he recalled Saturday at a concert back in Benidorm before some 4,000 people. Iglesias won with his tune "La Vida Sigue Igual" and went on to sign a contract with Discos Columbia, the Latin music label of Columbia Records. "It seems like it was only yesterday, in this very square, and during this time so much has happened," he told the Benidorm fans. Since that first timid appearance, Iglesias has gone on to perform with major names like Diana Ross, Sting, Paul Anka and Stevie Wonder to Placido Domingo and Frank Sinatra. He has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and won a Grammy for the best Latin pop album in 1988.

The suave Latino cracked the tough US music market in 1984 with "To All the Girls I've Loved Before", a duet with Willy Nelson, but he did not stop with English. One of the biggest crossover artists in the world of pop, he has also recorded albums in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Tagalog, among others. In 1983 he received the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a singer by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history , according to his website.

Impressive Iglesias - Busuioc duet in Cluj
published: 2008-07-16

by George Grigoriu

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias had a two-hour performance on the “Ion Moina” Stadium in Cluj-Napoca, ended by a powerful duet with the Romanian Costel Busuioc. The two singers performed the “Caruso” in front of over 8,000 people.

The song “Caruso – Te voglio bene assai” was performed in Italian and followed by an enthusiastic gesture from behalf of Julio Iglesias, who kissed Costel Busuioc’s hand and afterwards kissed his cheeks.

The duet thus closed a performance of two hours that included no break.

“My country offered success and power to a young man. He has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard,” Iglesias said, referring to Busuioc.

Busuioc declared he was “genuinely honoured” to sing beside the great Spanish artist.

Julio iglesias performed 26 songs of the repertoire he completed throughout his 40-year career, both in Spanish and English. The band Distinto from Bucharest performed in the opening of the show. The artist was able to stir the genuine enthusiasm of the audience, as the viewers sang along with the musician the song “Manuela” and danced on other songs. It started raining at the end of the show, but no viewer left the Stadium.

Julio Re-Schedules Russian Concert

Julio stops concert over heart
26/06/2008 19:18 - (SA)

Madrid - Spanish singing legend Julio Iglesias, 64, has interrupted a concert tour in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg because of a heart problem, Spanish media reported on Thursday.

Iglesias started feeling unwell after performing two songs at Tuesday's concert, which was rescheduled for Thursday.

Doctors associated the heart trouble with stress and advised Iglesias to rest.

"I am well, it is the first time this happens to me," Iglesias was quoted as saying.

Iglesias started his Russian tour in Moscow last week.

He has some 20 concerts scheduled for the summer in countries including Syria, Romania, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and the United States.

Iglesias is one of the world's best-selling singers, with more than 2 600 gold and platinum records to his credit.

He has fathered eight children, including singer Enrique Iglesias.

Russin Interview

Interview with Julio Iglesias for RIA Novosti News Agency, Russia

1. What made you embark on the World Tour?

Julio Iglesias: I feel wonderful on stage, surrounded by an audience. Right now, I am fully focused on going on.

2. Please tell us about the program you are going to present at your concerts in Russia.

Julio Iglesias: My shows in Russia will be focused on the most important songs in my life, those that people seem to have enjoyed the most all these decades. "Manuela", "Hey!", "Abrázame", "Crazy", "Me olvidé de vivir" are going to be some of them. And I am looking forward to singing them together with my Russian audience.

3. Which musicians will accompany you on your visit to Russia?

Julio Iglesias: My band includes 11 people: guitars, keyboard, sax, drums, plus vocals and dancers. We shall also perform tangos, so we have two tango dancers in our team.

4. Will you use any special effects in your Russian concerts, any special technology or stage sets?

Julio Iglesias: You know, I think feelings and the connection between the artist and his audience are much more important than spectacular technology on stage. My show is not based on special technologic effects, but on the strong effect music itself has.

5. You will sing in the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, which is Russia's most important stage. Does that mean anything to you?

Julio Iglesias: It is a great honor for me to perform at the Kremlin Palace. It is a beautiful, special place, to which I am delighted to return. Besides, I have so many memories related to my previous show at Kremlin.

6. What do you think of the Russian audience?

Julio Iglesias: With so many great musicians, dancers and artists in their history, Russian people know to appreciate and deeply enjoy music. I think they are a demanding audience, for whom high quality standards are very important. At the same time, when they get what they expect, they give themselves over to the artist.

7. It is not your first time in Russia. Could you tell us what made the biggest impression on you during your previous visits? Will you be visiting any sights this time?

Julio Iglesias: Yes, I have performed in Russia several times. It is a beautiful country, where you have always something new and interesting to discover. I like the people very much. They are nice and friendly. You also have beautiful cities; in Russia, you feel the touch of history on the streets, in the architecture of its buildings and beautiful churches, in the air... You are a very strong race.

8. You have reached incredible heights during your singing career. Is there anything you still want to do, anything you have not had a chance to reach yet?

Julio Iglesias: Thank you. Yes, I am lucky, because life has given me so much and I am grateful for that. But a man needs to keep dreaming all his life; if you consider that there is nothing else for you to discover in the world, that you have everything, this is the first step to a decline. I want to see my five little children growing healthy and happy and to enjoy the accomplishments of my elder sons. I also want to keep singing while God allows me to and people enjoy my performances.

9. Are you still nervous before going on stage, like it was in the beginning of your career? What do you feel standing before a packed house?

Julio Iglesias: Yes, going on stage is always a new, emotional experience for me. It does not matter how many times you´ve done that; you have always the same feeling. And it´s good to feel a little bit nervous, because it means that you are deeply involved and the show makes you vibrate.

10. Will you support your sons in their creative activity?

Julio Iglesias: My elder sons know that I shall always be there for them, whenever they need me. Regarding my little children, it´s too soon to say if they are going to choose an artistic career. It´s true they like music and they even organized a band, last Christmas, at home, with their cousins. Anyway, whatever they choose to do in life, I will fully support them.

Julio Interview in "Wine Spectator"

Wine Talk: Julio Iglesias

World-famous singer and would-be sports star has a taste for Old World gems
Eric Arnold

Posted: Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Singer Julio Iglesias, 64, has sold more than 250 million albums worldwide. But becoming an internationally renowned singer was a bit of an accident, since what Iglesias really wanted was to play for legendary soccer team Real Madrid. He enjoyed a short stint with the team as its goalkeeper, but a near-fatal accident in 1962 left him unable to walk for two years. It was during his recuperation that Iglesias began writing songs and learning music, and the rest is history—literally, since Iglesias has sold more albums in more languages than any other artist. And just like that accident that changed his life for the better, it was a whimsical tasting in the early '70s that turned Iglesias into a lifelong wine lover and, eventually, led him to build a vast collection over the past three decades.
Wine Spectator: How and when did you first become interested in wine?Julio Iglesias: I got interested in wines in 1972, one afternoon, having lunch with Roman Polanski and two photographers. I remember I was not interested in wines. But I was having lunch and I asked what was a good wine to the barman, and they took away the glasses from the table and brought a new wine--not in the bottle, but in the carafe. It was a '51 Lafite. And I became crazy about the wine. I understood for the first time the pleasure of the taste of an incredible wine.

WS: What are some of your favorite wines today?
JI: I don't have very many favorite wines. It depends on the circumstances. I started to collect wines in 1973, and I very much appreciate the wine, but tonight I will work until four o'clock, and I will be very tired, so I will not drink a wine tonight. But normally if I have time and it's a casual conversation I will open a good Pauillac or a good Pomerol. I will not open a
Romanée-Conti in a casual conversation. But I will open a good wine in a good year. I['ve] collect[ed] wines for 30 or 40 years, [but] I'm not a big buyer like I used to be.

WS: How many bottles do you have?
JI: Fifty thousand? I was buying and buying and buying and buying. I drink wine every night a little and I have tastings with my friends. Unfortunately, for my age, I will not be able to drink all of them! My main cellar is in the south of Spain, in two main rooms. One is underground. I keep maybe 60 percent of my wines there. The other 40 percent is in Florida in my house and in a [rented] wine cellar. And at my house in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, I keep three or four thousand wines there.

WS: Is there a wine you don't have that you really want?
JI: Le Pin is quite impossible—it's quite difficult to buy any today. And I'm not interested in buying very many more Romanées because I have a good collection, and I won't have time to drink it all.

WS: If you could only drink one wine from your collection for the rest of your life, what would it be?
JI: If I know, and I would not be disappointed [through the years] with the way the wine is tasting I would go to the Latours. If I had to taste a wine with the same flavor all the time I would take a good Château Pétrus or a Le Pin—a great Pomerol.

WS: Who is the most interesting winemaker you've ever met?
JI: I was very impressed with Robert Mondavi. What he did was not easy. [But] I'm much more impressed with the people who make the wines, who are 65 years old and worked in the same vineyard with their father, and follow the vineyard from the first day to the second week of September to the next September. They really care about the vineyard. That's what I appreciate very much.

WS: If Real Madrid wins the Champions League this year, what wine will you open to celebrate?
JI: I don't think I'll be able to open one, because I don't think they're going to make it! [Ed: He was right--Real Madrid was eliminated in the early rounds of the tournament.] We have great players, but we don’t have a great team. It's like we have a great vineyard, but we don't have a great winemaker. But when they finally win it will be my last '85 Romanée magnum.

But I always believe what is good will remain. Some people will come along and stay. 40th jubilee for Julio Iglesias
BY PHIL ROURA
Sunday, April 27th 2008, 4:00 AM

The clear, sexy voice that has entertained millions around the world since 1968 sounds raspy. But Julio Iglesias insists that the virus that hit him earlier this month is gone.
“I’m much better now than I have been in a while,” says Iglesias, though he’s still recovering from the fever that put him in bed for a week.
The international superstar fell sick in the middle of his 2008 world tour, which celebrates his 40th anniversary in show business — a milestone he reaches in July.
Rarely ill, Iglesias was forced to cancel seven shows spanning concert dates in
California, Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. But he says he will play Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on Wednesday and be able to do a two-night gig at Caesars Atlantic City on Friday and Saturday. (He is also booked for the Capital One Bank Theatre in Westbury, L.I., May 7.)
“I’m feeling very well. Even my sex life is healthy again,” he says with a giggle.
Which means obstetricians should be put on notice. Over the past 11 years, the frisky Iglesias has sired five children with Dutch model
Miranda Rijnsburger. Their latest, Guillermo, turns 1 on May 5.
“He is the most beautiful baby,” says the proud papa. “But all of my children are beautiful. They have a beautiful mother, no?”
Papa ain’t so bad, either. At 65, he is a sex symbol to legions around the world, even if he does have three grown children — daughter Chabéli, a journalist, and her singing siblings, Julio Jr. and Enrique — from an annulled first marriage.
“Sure, we see each other,” says Iglesias, a little taken aback when asked about their seeing each other.
“I’m very proud of them. But my older kids are very independent. They have their own lives and careers.”
And so does the head of the family.
“Right now I am enjoying my life,” he says. “If nothing else happens, I am grateful for my fans and my friends, who have always supported me. In the final analysis, the decision [to be a success] is never yours. It is up to the people.
“But I do love what I do. I am proud of the last 40 years. And I am proud as well that I have been accepted by the people in
Atlantic City for the past 30 years.”
Iglesias’ tour will also take him to
Russia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Holland. Plans for 2009 include concerts in New Zealand, Australia and China, the last, he says “is in a state of confusion” as capitalism and communism try to cohabit.
“I’ve been there many times,” says Iglesias, who has a degree in international law. “I have witnessed [China’s] development. It has been amazing, but there is confusion between its politics and the free-market economy.
Shanghai has become another New York. Beijing, which was once a city flooded with bicycles, is now filled with cars. They weren’t prepared for the [resulting] pollution. In 1971 they had maybe 200,000 cars. Now, there are more than 20 million. So now, everyone is worried about the health of the athletes during the upcoming Olympics.”
Iglesias, though, limits his international relations to music. As for that career, he became an entertainer literally by accident. In 1963, Iglesias, then a promising young goalkeeper for the great
Real Madrid soccer team, was in a car crash so horrific that doctors thought he’d never walk again. While he was recovering, a nurse handed him a guitar so that he could exercise his fingers — and the rest is history.
Today, “music is changing,” says Iglesias. “But I always believe what is good will remain. Some people will come along and stay. Others will leave.
“There are now more opportunities for young people than ever before, but it seems all you have to do is win a contest on Thursday and go on tour on Friday. To be that much in a hurry is not good.”
Meanwhile, Iglesias is heeding his own advice and will wait at least a year before recording his next CD. His most recent album — a French disk titled “Quelque Chose de
France” — was released in 2007.
Doing an album “takes a major commitment,” he explains. “Right now all I want to do is perform.”

Julio Iglesias- International phenom, intimate setting
By Mía R. Cortez

Cintya Dominguez, 25, grew up listening to Julio Iglesias. She came to love his music and his style and says she’s still a huge fan. “He has a very elegant presentation – his music is relaxing and passionate,” Dominguez said. “My mother always listened to his music, so I grew up really liking him, too.”Dominguez is one of many El Pasoans who will miss out on Iglesias’ sold-out concert at the Plaza Theatre, but 2,000 lucky others will see the legendary Spanish artist perform live Monday night.“I was surprised that he’s coming to El Paso, and I would have expected a larger venue, but the Plaza is the perfect intimate setting for one of his shows,” Dominguez said.Iglesias is currently on a global tour spanning more than 60 cities around the world. Fifteen of those stops are in the United States; the rest are in South Africa, Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Croatia and more than five countries in South America.Iglesias, 64, whose record sales have made him as the most successful Latin singer in music history, started his music career in 1968. Growing up, the Spanish artist may not have imagined his fame would reach such heights. He played goalkeeper for the junior Real Madrid soccer team and wanted to be a professional soccer player, but he also studied Law in the Complutense University of Madrid.A car accident at the age of 20 left him semi-paralyzed for more than a year, during which time he learned to play the guitar and wrote romantic poems and lyrics. He continued to write songs after he recovered and one day offered a recording company one of his songs to be recorded by someone else. They heard his demo and asked him to sing it himself. He was signed to Colombia Records in 1968 and has since sold more than 250 million albums and has been the recipient of more than 2,600 platinum and gold records, according to his official website. He has received the Diamond Record Award – the only one ever given to a singer by the Guinness Book of World Records – for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history. He has recorded albums in Spanish, German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Tagalog, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Bahasa Indonesian. “In my travels to Southeast Asia, South and Central America and Europe, I have always seemed to hear at least one of his songs,” said Mary Anne Navidomskis, 24. “People in other countries admire when a well-known performer adapts to their language and culture. I’ve seen him in concert and think he has maintained a very strong voice. Not all singers are able to do that.”

Julio Iglesias returns to Romania to perform three concerts
The performances are part of a great tour that celebrates the anniversary of the 40th year in the artist’s career.

Julio Iglesias returns to Romania in order to perform a series of three concerts in July, in the cities Brasov, Cluj-Napoca and Constanta, the official website of the artist announces. Therefore, the concert in Brasov is scheduled on July 14, in Piata Sfatului, located in the centre of the city, the performance from Cluj Napoca will take place on July 16, on the Stadium, and the concert in Constanta is announced for July 19, in the port. The Romanian mini-tour is part of the international tour “Julio Iglesias in Concert – 2008,” that started in January, in South Africa, continued in Columbia, Venezuela, Argentina and Uruguay, in Brazil during March, and now, in April, includes a great tour in the United States. “Julio Iglesias in Concert 2008” is an anniversary tour that celebrates 40 years of Julio’s music career.“Julio Iglesias is delighted to return to Brasov during this anniversary tour, due to the fact that this is the city where he attended his first international festival, in 1969. Actually the anniversary of the Golden Stag’s 40th edition coincides with the anniversary of the 40th year in Julio’s career”, the artist’s assistant Gabriela Ristea declared for Nine O’ Clock. Julio Iglesias, the best-sold Spanish singer, previously performed a Romanian tour in April 2007, including several cities such as Timisoara, Sibiu, Constanta and Bucharest. In 1999, Julio Iglesias had also performed in Bucharest, on the “Cotroceni” Stadium. The artist had visited Romania for the first time in 1969, when he attended the “Golden Stag” Festival.Julio Iglesias had sold over 250 million copies of his albums worldwide, in several languages, and performed over 5,000 concerts throughout his career.
