Julio Re-Schedules Russian Concert
Julio stops concert over heart
26/06/2008 19:18 - (SA)
Madrid - Spanish singing legend Julio Iglesias, 64, has interrupted a concert tour in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg because of a heart problem, Spanish media reported on Thursday.
Iglesias started feeling unwell after performing two songs at Tuesday's concert, which was rescheduled for Thursday.
Doctors associated the heart trouble with stress and advised Iglesias to rest.
"I am well, it is the first time this happens to me," Iglesias was quoted as saying.
Iglesias started his Russian tour in Moscow last week.
He has some 20 concerts scheduled for the summer in countries including Syria, Romania, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and the United States.
Iglesias is one of the world's best-selling singers, with more than 2 600 gold and platinum records to his credit.
He has fathered eight children, including singer Enrique Iglesias.

Russin Interview
Interview with Julio Iglesias for RIA Novosti News Agency, Russia
1. What made you embark on the World Tour?
Julio Iglesias: I feel wonderful on stage, surrounded by an audience. Right now, I am fully focused on going on.
2. Please tell us about the program you are going to present at your concerts in Russia.
Julio Iglesias: My shows in Russia will be focused on the most important songs in my life, those that people seem to have enjoyed the most all these decades. "Manuela", "Hey!", "Abrázame", "Crazy", "Me olvidé de vivir" are going to be some of them. And I am looking forward to singing them together with my Russian audience.
3. Which musicians will accompany you on your visit to Russia?
Julio Iglesias: My band includes 11 people: guitars, keyboard, sax, drums, plus vocals and dancers. We shall also perform tangos, so we have two tango dancers in our team.
4. Will you use any special effects in your Russian concerts, any special technology or stage sets?
Julio Iglesias: You know, I think feelings and the connection between the artist and his audience are much more important than spectacular technology on stage. My show is not based on special technologic effects, but on the strong effect music itself has.
5. You will sing in the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, which is Russia's most important stage. Does that mean anything to you?
Julio Iglesias: It is a great honor for me to perform at the Kremlin Palace. It is a beautiful, special place, to which I am delighted to return. Besides, I have so many memories related to my previous show at Kremlin.
6. What do you think of the Russian audience?
Julio Iglesias: With so many great musicians, dancers and artists in their history, Russian people know to appreciate and deeply enjoy music. I think they are a demanding audience, for whom high quality standards are very important. At the same time, when they get what they expect, they give themselves over to the artist.
7. It is not your first time in Russia. Could you tell us what made the biggest impression on you during your previous visits? Will you be visiting any sights this time?
Julio Iglesias: Yes, I have performed in Russia several times. It is a beautiful country, where you have always something new and interesting to discover. I like the people very much. They are nice and friendly. You also have beautiful cities; in Russia, you feel the touch of history on the streets, in the architecture of its buildings and beautiful churches, in the air... You are a very strong race.
8. You have reached incredible heights during your singing career. Is there anything you still want to do, anything you have not had a chance to reach yet?
Julio Iglesias: Thank you. Yes, I am lucky, because life has given me so much and I am grateful for that. But a man needs to keep dreaming all his life; if you consider that there is nothing else for you to discover in the world, that you have everything, this is the first step to a decline. I want to see my five little children growing healthy and happy and to enjoy the accomplishments of my elder sons. I also want to keep singing while God allows me to and people enjoy my performances.
9. Are you still nervous before going on stage, like it was in the beginning of your career? What do you feel standing before a packed house?
Julio Iglesias: Yes, going on stage is always a new, emotional experience for me. It does not matter how many times you´ve done that; you have always the same feeling. And it´s good to feel a little bit nervous, because it means that you are deeply involved and the show makes you vibrate.
10. Will you support your sons in their creative activity?
Julio Iglesias: My elder sons know that I shall always be there for them, whenever they need me. Regarding my little children, it´s too soon to say if they are going to choose an artistic career. It´s true they like music and they even organized a band, last Christmas, at home, with their cousins. Anyway, whatever they choose to do in life, I will fully support them.
