Julio Iglesias Onboard Record-Setting Flight

SAVANNAH , Ga. , Feb. 12, 2007 – An ultra-long-range Gulfstream G550 established a city-pair speed record flying from Honolulu , Hawaii , to Punta Cana , Dominican Republic , in just over 10 hours. Onboard the Gulfstream demonstration aircraft was one of the most successful artists in the history of music, Julio Iglesias, who is awaiting delivery of two Gulfstream aircraft – a G550 and a long-range G450.
“In the 20 years I’ve owned Gulfstream jets, I have always been able to count on the reliability of the airplane and the support of Gulfstream’s service centers to meet my busy schedule. Gulfstream jets offer the cutting edge in technology and unparalleled performance,” Iglesias said. “For me, the word ‘Gulfstream’ stands for both a superb product and an outstanding company. It is an honor to be a member of the Gulfstream family and a part of this recent record-setting flight.”
The G550 took off from Honolulu International Airport at 8:17 p.m. on Jan. 12. Piloted by Larry S. Mueller, Gulfstream senior international captain; David E. Smith, Gulfstream international captain; and Jack Mullican, international captain, the G550 flew east 5,106 nautical miles at an average cruise speed of 0.85 Mach, landing at Punta Cana International Airport the next day at 2:18 p.m. Flight attendant Karin O’Kelly provided in-flight cabin service to Mr. Iglesias and his guests.
Gulfstream has submitted applications to the National Aeronautic Association to confirm this new city-pair record.
One of the world’s top recording artists, Julio Iglesias has sold more than 250 million records in different languages, released 77 records and performed more than 5,000 concerts during his career.
