Get ready to feel the romance

Posted By SARA ROSS, THE PACKET AND TIMES- Orillia, Ontario Canada

Julio Iglesias hopes to put people in the mood while serenading his fans at Casino Rama later this month.

"They have a good time, (then) they go back home and they maybe make love -- you never know," the 66-year-old laughed. "I love that. The more the better."

Casino Rama is Iglesias' third and last Canadian stop on his 2009 Julio Iglesias in Concert world tour. He performed in Coquitlam and Richmond B. C., in May. The year-long tour started in January with 57 scheduled performances.

"I tour because I need to tour," Iglesias said. "I have the passion to sing all my life. It's not for money. It's just a passion. I just need to. Music is my life."

When Iglesias takes to the Casino Rama stage on Oct. 30 and 31, he will perform classic songs such as Manuela, Quijote, Me olvidé de vivir, Hey!,and El Amor.

"I don't have a repertoire. It means I can change the pace for the country, but normally I would play the classics and newer stuff, but normally the classics," he said. "They will hear whatever they want to hear."

Iglesias spoke to The Packet & Times from his recording studio in the Caribbean and shared few insights into the material he is working on now. "I don't know exactly what I'll do," Iglesias said. "It's great because it's something that will be created from the moment that I'm living."

Iglesias, who was born in Madrid, has recorded 77 albums, selling more than 300 million copies in 14 languages.

In 1983, Iglesias was awarded the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a performer by the Guinness World Book of Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history -- Spanish, German, Japanese, English, Italian, Portuguese, French and Tagalog. Last year, he celebrated four decades of his musical career.

Iglesias has played at Casino Rama several times in the past and is thrilled to come back, he said.
"I love to come back to places because there is no bigger privilege in life then to come back to a place," Iglesias said. "I love (Casino Rama). I think it has great sound. There's great people. It's great, great, great."

Tickets for the show can be purchased online at
www.ticketmaster.ca or in person at the Casino Rama box office.

The Spanish singer Julio Iglesias received today the Heraldic Shield, the highest honor given by the Mayor's Office of Santo Domingo, in recognition of the "productive" and long artistic career of the singer.

The singer, who has Dominican citizenship, received the Heraldic Shield from the hands of the mayor of Santo Domingo, Roberto Salcedo, who declared that Iglesias has made a "very special habitat" of the Caribbean country

"Without any doubt Julio Iglesias represents the most important Dominican ambassador on a planetary level," claimed the official in the ceremony celebrated in the Council Palace of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo.Salcedo affirmed that for his country "it is a mark of distinction to know that this man (Iglesias), who many years ago visited the Dominican Republic for the first time, has remained in the hearts and the thoughts of the Dominican people".

Iglesias, who resides a good part of the year in Punta Cana (on the east coast of the Republic), gave his thanks for the honor and declared himself "enamored" of this nation, which he first got to know, he said, through his late father, who also "loved" it.The Dominican Republic is, in his opinion, "an absolutely perfect country, even still to be discovered," which will receive millions of visitors in the coming years. The singer assured that in the Dominican Republic, a country that he has known for 40 years, one has a "very enjoyable time"."Here I have my family, my people and my friends," emphasized the singer of the hits "Un canto a Galicia" and "Me olvidé de vivir."

Julio Iglesias is celebrating at this time his forty-year career in music with a world tour which will land in the Dominican Republic for two concerts, the 5th and 7th of this coming November.

The singer of "33 años" and "De niña a mujer," among other numerous hits, has recorded songs in 14 languages and has sold more than 300 million albums. It is estimated that he has performed more than 5,000 concerts in more than 600 cities around the world.
